Tip 983: Using Autocorrect: When April is not April, May is not May | Outlook Daily Tips

When April is not April 25, may is not May 10, and June is not June 3... The user's name is April and when she types her name as a signature at the end of an email in Outlook 2003 and hits ENTER, Outlook automatically changes April to April 25, 2012. How can I stop this? I've found similar behavior in Outlook 2010. You'll find the same behavior in Outlook 2007 and any version that uses Word as the email editor. This is a feature of Autocomplete. While it is possible to disable it, if your user can put up with it for one month each year, she may benefit from other autocomplete features. My recommendation: She needs to create a signature so Outlook inserts it instead of typing her name each time. When she does need to type her name and hits enter accidentally, she can undo the date insert with Ctrl+Z. You can disable it completely in Outlook 2010, change it in File, Options, Spelling & Autocorrect, Advanced - Show Autocomplete Suggestions. In 2003, open a new message, then Tools, Autocorrect, Autotext tab and turn off Autotext. This will turn off all suggestions; I'm not aware of a [...]

I want to create a conditional formatting view for my Inbox to highlight all messages sent only to me. I selected the box "where I am the only person on the To line" but it only applies the conditional formatting if the name is exact. If the sender uses only my e-mail address (so the To line shows alias@domain.com) or my name enclosed in quotes or some other variation, it won't apply the formatting. How do I get conditional formatting to look at the e-mail address being used rather than the display name? You need to create the filter conditions using the Sent to field or use the Advanced tab. Both of the To fields use the display name (as does the From field on the Advanced tab). You will need to either type all variations of your display name in the Sent to field (use quotes around each name) or use the Advanced tab and create one rule for each name variation (no quotes needed). Use To is (exactly) alias@domain then [...]

The username and password are correct, I use them to log into Facebook. I uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook and the Social Connector but it didn't help. First off, uninstalling and reinstalling rarely fixes problems. The repair option in Add and Remove Programs will do the same and is faster, although it is not a cure-all for all things wrong in Outlook, such as this problem. Have you checked your Facebook configuration? Such as, oh, permission for 3rd party apps to access your Facebook account? If you locked it down by editing your Privacy Settings to turn off access by applications, you won't be able to connect using the Social Connector. To check, log into your Facebook account and check your privacy settings. Expand the menu beside the Home button in the upper right corner and choose Privacy Settings. In the Apps and Websites row, click Edit Settings to open the App, Games and Websites page. If you ever turned off all apps, you are blocking the Social Connector. You need to enable all apps and may need to [...]
