Tip 346: New Item Row

Tarja asked this question: "When in the Other Settings box, just below
‘in-cell editing’ is ‘show "new item" row’. When selected it puts a new row at
the top of the listed messages. I see that I can create an Untitled Discussion
message. Can you recommend how to use this?"

That field is most useful in Tasks, Calendar, or Contacts. When you have the
new row showing, you can type in it to create a new item. It’s great to quickly
create new tasks, although to use it you need to be working in the tasks folder
already.

I suspect it’s one of the less used features in Outlook, but that may change
with Outlook 2007 – thanks to the To Do Bar that displays on the right side of
all folders. It displays a small navigation calendar, upcoming appointments and
the task list. The new item row comes in very handy when the task list is
visible in every folder!
