Tip 765: Junk Email Folder Icon

July 27, 2010
By

Over the last 6 weeks or so, I’ve had/seen several questions about the junk mail folder icon and didn’t understand why they insisted the icon was wrong…  I do now.

“My junk email folder is blocked, how do I unblock it?  Nothing goes into the  folder automatically.  There is a small red circle with a diagonal line thru it on the folder symbol.  Outlook 2007.”

This is the correct icon for the folder and doesn’t mean the junk mail filter is blocked or broken.

This is not quite the same question, but still closely related, so I hope someone knowledgeable out there can help me…

My Outlook 2010 Junk Email folder’s icon mysteriously changed to the Contacts icon and now this folder shows up in my Contacts folder list instead of in my Mail Profile where it’s supposed to be. I don’t know how this happened because I have 4 other profiles in Outlook and those Junk Email icons are still the yellow folder with the red circle, but mine somehow changed. How do I restore/correct the icon to what it’s supposed to be, so Outlook puts it back into my mail profile and doesn’t think it’s a Contacts folder?

So annoyed, but any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!!

I would start with the /resetfolders switch and if that doesn’t work, /resetnavpane switch.

    close outlook.
Press window key + R to open the run dialog then type
    outlook.exe /resetfolders
in the run field and press enter to restart outlook.

if it fails, repeat the steps using /resetnavpane switch.

    how to use command lines
