Tip 389: Pan or Select

A reader asks:

In Outlook 2007, when I try to select some specific text in an email, rather than the "select" cursor, I have a "hand" cursor that just wants to grab the message and scroll up or down. The tool bar offers "Select Text" as a command, but it selects all, and I can't even control that with the keyboard. It seems very odd and unintuitive. Do I have my settings incorrect?

panning hand above the scroll barOutlook's reading pane allows you to "pan" around the message when you have and panning enabled the Tablet PC tools installed.

Click on the little hand above the scroll bar along the right edge to toggle it off and on. When it's toggled off you'll be able to select and copy text.

Tip: If the hand isn't visible, press ESC to turn panning off.
