Tip 625: RSS and HTML Preview

If you use Outlook 2007’s RSS feature and want to display the full content inside Outlook instead of giving link to "View Article", set the RSS feed to download the full content as HTML then you can select the HTML attachment to display it in the preview pane.

To do this, go to Tools, Account settings, RSS tab – select the feed and click Change, select the option to download as HTML.

If you only want to download HTML for the articles you want to read, you can right click on the Infobar and choose Download/update content.

Keep in mind that not all RSS content looks good displayed in Outlook– for security reasons Outlook blocks “active content” and does not download linked external content (i.e., style sheets and images) or allow scripts to run. As a result, some pages may not be well formatted due to missing CSS, images, or JavaScript. They are still readable, but if you want “perfect”, you’ll need to open them in your browser.

If you use Windows XP, you’ll need to install an HTML handler – see Add Preview Handlers for Outlook 2007
