Tip 937: Select the Folder to Save Sent Email in

An Outlook user had a question about how to save sent messages in other folders:

Imagine this scenario: after you send an email, a window pops up so you can select a folder to store the sent message in.

Is it possible?

Sure. You have three options:

You can use the Save sent message command on the options ribbon to select a folder. The button lists the most recently used folders or you can select another folder. It doesn't pop up after you hit send, so you'll need to remember to select the folder before sending.

If you really want a pop-up dialog, you can do it using VBA or a 3rd party add-in. A ready-to-use code sample is available at To set the storage folder for an outgoing Outlook message. Or see the Tools list at Choosing the Folder to Save a Sent Message In for a list of add-ins.
