Tip 1093: Status Bar View shortcut icons override display settings

Outlook 2010 and 2013 have View buttons in the Status bar that switch from the "normal" view to a view better suited for reading, with the Navigation Bar, To-Do Bar, and ribbon minimized and a wider reading pane.

In Outlook, when I change views using status bar View shortcuts icons, the ribbon is always shown, regardless of if it was shown or hidden. This is annoying if you chose to hide the ribbon and want to use Status bar View shortcuts icons to quickly change views, the ribbon is re-displayed. Is there a fix for this?

When you select a view in the Status bar, it will display according to pre-defined settings. Unfortunately, your preferences are not saved in Outlook 2010. If you have the ribbon minimized, Outlook will restore it when you switch to a different view. If you have the To-Do Bar off, Outlook will turn it back on.

Outlook 2013 is a bit smarter and remembers the ribbon setting although I've had pinned peeks show up unexpectedly.

Note: the zoom slider settings are not remembered.

These screenshots are from Outlook 2013, the buttons are in the same position in Outlook 2010. Outlook 2010's Calendar and Contacts have additional views available, while Outlook 2013 has just two for every folder: Normal and Reading.
