Tip 1073: Easily disable e-mail accounts

I use Outlook 2010 with multiple e-mail accounts. When I travel, I do not need to download all of the e-mail from all of the accounts. Is there an easy way to disable the e-mail accounts I do not want to collect mail for?

Sure. For an occasional trip, open the Send and Receive dialog using Ctrl+Alt+S.

  1. Select the Send and Receive group
  2. Click Edit
  3. Select the Account
  4. Deselect 'Include [account] in send and receive group'.
  5. Repeat for each account you don't want included in the send and receive group.

Send and Receive Group settings

Don't forget to re-enable the accounts when you return.

If you travel a lot it will be easier to create a new Send and Receive group. Select all accounts in the home group and select only the accounts you want to check in the travel group. When you travel, open the Send and Receive dialog and deselect all of the options for working online and offline. When you return, re-enable the options.
