Tip 217: Open Files on Schedule

You can open documents and web pages using appointments if you create an online meeting.

  1. Open an meeting invitation (or click the invite button on an appointment) and enter your email address in the To field.
  2. Add a check to the Online meeting option.
  3. Select Using Windows Media Services
  4. Enter the file location or web address in the Event address field Add a check to the field to Automatically start Windows Media with the reminder.
  5. Save and close.

When the reminder triggers, a dialog will open, asking if it can open the document or web page.

Note: You can tell Outlook to always open that document type automatically if you want, although it's not recommended for web pages and some document types because of the virus potential – this setting applies to the document type across all windows programs, including IE, and a malicious script in a web page could open that document type automatically.
