Tip 342: Printing Messages

David asks:

"One question I often get asked is: I have typed up an email for my Boss, including all the To, CC and BCC entered.  He wants me to print it off for checking by him, but the recipients do not appear on the printed copy. Any thoughts?"

Assuming that "checking by him" means before sending, my only thought is 'It can't be done.' At least not when you use Word as your editor. The only workaround I know, besides switching to the Outlook editor, is to copy and paste the contents of the fields into the message body before printing. (You could use screen print and print the image, but that's not practical for frequent use or with colored printers.)

Once the message is sent you can print the sent copy and see the To/CC fields, but not when you are printing messages before sending.

Keep in mind that BCC fields aren't included in any of the printouts – you'll need to paste those in the message body regardless of the editor you are using.

Future tip: Outlook 2007 will make your users happy. Even though the Outlook editor is gone, it's print routine is used for all print jobs in Outlook 2007- you'll print using the Outlook Memo format which does contain the header fields. The bad news is that you won't be able to print Replies or Forwards using Word's more advanced printing options.
