Tip 657: “Unable to open the Outlook window” error

Another frequent complaint lately:

“I receive the following message when trying to open my email: Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. Could not open folders. No stores were found to be open.”

You need to reset the navigation pane to fix it. To do this, in the Start menu's Search field, or press Windows key + R to open the Run command then type or paste:

outlook.exe /resetnavpane

Make sure there is a space between the exe and /.

Using the Resetnavpane switch

See How to use Outlook’s Command line switches for more information on using switches.
