Every now and again, we get asked if there is there a limit to the number of Automatic formatting rules. (Conditional Formatting in Outlook 2010)
The question usually goes something like this:
In Tools/Organize, you can choose a color to display a message from a specific sender when messages are received in Inbox. I'm getting the message: "You can not add another color rule because you have extended the maximum number of rules in this folder.
Yes there is a limit. (The error message is a big clue.:))
There is a limit of 27 automatic formatting rules allowed per view. If you need more formatting rules, options include combining the rules that use the same color or use some other method to keep the number of rules lower.
You're unlikely to see that error message in Outlook 2010 since Outlook 2010 doesn't have an Organize pane. When you use the Conditional formatting dialog to add rules and hit the magic number, the Add button is disabled.
