Tip 323: You've Got Mail Sound

Do you get a "You've Got Mail" announcement in Outlook 2003 and you aren't using AOL?

It means you have a Toshiba computer and have an application called Toshiba Voice enabled.

In Outlook 2003 and older, go to Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options, Add-In Manager and remove the check from "Mail Speak (TOSHIBA)".

Addins dialog in Outlook 2003 and older

In Outlook 2007, look in Tools, Trust Center, Add-ins and in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013, try File, Options, Trust Center, Add-ins. At the bottom of the dialog is a menu for Manage: COM Add-ins. Click the Go button and deselect the Toshiba add-in.

Manage addins dialog

If something is reading your email, check the Accessibility settings in the control panel: you have Narrator enabled.
