Tip 1062: Inserting a picture in an Outlook 2013 email reply

I have Outlook 2013 and can’t figure out how to insert a picture in an email reply. I can insert into a new email but not into a reply. I tried to modify the ribbons to add the command but I can't find the Insert Picture command.

When composing replies or forwards in the reading pane, there are limited options available. All of the basic features are available, including options such as Voting (click the expander in the Tags chunk to access the Options dialog) but full editing features, including inserting pictures or tables, require the full message editor window.

It's not possible to customize the ribbon because the Picture command is not available in the main Outlook window.

Click Pop Out when you need to insert pictures.

Compose Inline replies

Then use the Insert ribbon > Pictures command.

doesnt work for me... all the illustration options are greyed out....

Did you click in the message body? Most icons are gray until the cursor is in the body.

Is the message HTML or plain text format? Some are only available if using HTML format.

Do you have only Outlook 2013 installed with an older version of the Office suite? Many features require Outlook and Word from the same Office suite. You can trick outlook by copying winword.exe to the same folder as outlook.exe.

Disappointing but thanks for being the bearer of bad news :( Really wish we could customize the main ribbon to include Illustrations > Picture!

Thanks, that was easy, but I agree about stupid design. Why add another step to do something simple?
