Outlook's Contact (and Journal) Icons

These are the icons you'll see when you are looking in the Contacts folder. At the end are icons Exchange server users might see in the Global Address Book (GAL).

Icons

Description

Contact Form
Distribution list
Journal-enabled Contact (Tools, Options, Journal Options, Contacts that are checked) Not supported in Outlook Live.
Custom Contact form. If you are using a custom contact form, you'll see the generic note icon with those forms in most cases, unless you assigned an icon to the form. In some cases, the generic icon is used instead of the one you selected.

Exchange users may have the following icons in the GAL:

Icons

Description

Contact (not user) – usually an address outside the organization
Distribution list
Mail-enabled Public Folder (folder name uses bold font)
Query Based Distribution List (Exchange 2003)

Journal Icons

The icons that you'll see in the journal folder are normal icons for the file or item type, but have a small clock in the lower left corner. Only Contacts that are configured to be journaled (in Tools, Options) will have a clock on their icon in their own folder.
